PUNK, PORN & PERFORMANCE with Dorothy ‘Max’ Prior and Dave ‘Barbarossa’ Barbe of Adam and the Ants at the Century Club - Soho W1 Tuesday the 15th November 2022 Doors open at 6:30 pm, Talk commences at 7:00 pm Join Max and Dave in a very special evening of words, pictures and conversation about punk and London in the 1970s hosted by the author Travis Elborough. ‘Today’s call, he’s talking nineteen-to-the-dozen, speeding almost. (I know he’s not actually speeding because he never ever takes drugs – he doesn’t even drink or smoke.) But he sounds like he is, he hardly draws breath, the ideas come so thick and fast. Adam, he’s decided on Adam. Adam Ant. The band will be called The Ants. Like The Beatles, except The Ants. It’ll be bigger than The Beatles (“believe me, Maxie”).’ – Dorothy ‘Max’ Prior, 69 Exhibition Road While working as a photographer’s model, gallery usher, and exotic dancer, Dorothy “Max” Prior witnessed the births of Adam and the Ants, The Monochrome Set, The Sex Pistols, and Throbbing Gristle, as well as drumming in her own cult band Rema Rema and recording with Industrial Records. Her brilliant new memoir, 69 Exhibition Road: Twelve True-Life Tales from the Fag End of Punk, Porn & Performance offers a wry, revelatory account of the heady early days of punk. Dave 'Barbarossa' Barbe emerged from the underground London punk rock scene, drumming with Adam and the Ants on the iconic ‘Dirk Wears White Sox’ album. From there, he went on to create a highly unique tribal drumming style and reach international fame with Malcolm McLaren and Bow Wow Wow, through to Beats International and Republica. His debut novel, Mud Sharks, a semi-autobiographical coming of age story set in the turbulent era of punk was published to great acclaim in 2015. Tickets £12 - please click here to buy. |
