KARL MARX - The Philosopher in Soho
with Neil Faulkner

Wednesday 13th June 2018
Doors open at 6:30 pm, Talk commences at 7:00 pm

Karl Marx was an economist, sociologist and philosopher who has been described as one of the most influential figures in human history. Having been expelled from his native Germany as well as France and Belgium for his revolutionary political beliefs, Marx arrived in London at the age of 31.

He was to live here the remaining three decades of his life and a blue plaque at his former residence at 28 Dean Street commemorates his life in the capital. He wrote his most famous work, Das Kapital, in the British Library. In it he outlined his theory of class struggle as a force for social transformation, predicting that capitalism would be torn apart by its internal contradictions and replaced by a system called socialism.

Join us for a special evening in celebration of Karl Marx’s bicentenary with Neil Faulkner - author of A Marxist History of the World. Neil will be exploring the intricacies of Marx’s life in London in a fascinating talk that will reveal why Karl Marx is now considered one of the greatest philosophers of all time.
