Lucian Freud: The Artist and his Muse

LUCIAN FREUD: The Artist and his Muse
with Sue Tilley at the Century Club, Soho W1

Tuesday 31st May 2022
Doors open at 6:30 pm, Talk commences at 7:00 pm

Lucian Freud (1922 - 2011) is widely considered to be the greatest British artist of the second half of the Twentieth Century. The grandson of Sigmund Freud, his family emigrated to Britain in 1933 to escape the rise of Nazism. Freud trained at the Central School of Art and spent most of his career in Paddington, an inner-city area whose seediness is reflected in his often sombre and moody interiors. He began painting nudes in the 1960s where he developed the thickly impastoed style which became his trade mark. Freud believed in developing an intimate relationship with his models and insisted on getting to know their personalities as well as their bodies as he wanted to paint the complete person.

In this talk, Sue Tilley turns the canvas to reveal the story of Lucian Freud highlighting her time as the muse of his masterpiece and the hilarious gossip this unique position entailed.
