The Coronet first opened its doors in 1879 as the Elephant Theatre. It was designed by the preeminent architect, Frank Matcham whose later works included many London landmarks such as the London Coliseum, the Victoria Palace and the Hippodrome. In 1928, actors stopped treading its boards and the building was converted into a full time cinema and acquired its present name.

Today it is one of a few buildings in London's zone 1 which continues to support the capital's alternative arts scene. Its spacious interior allows for four internal stages and outside a further stretch of railway arches lends itself to creating an fantastical warren of immersive theatrical entertaiment.
