BRUTALIST LONDON
with Barnabas Calder at Erno Goldfinger's home at 2 Willow Road NW3

Thursday 12th October 2017
Doors open at 6:30 pm, Talk commences at 7:00 pm

A celebration of all things concrete: in this talk architectural historian Barnabas Calder extols the virtues of the large concrete buildings of the 1960s and ‘70s. Focusing on London and in particular Goldfinger’s Trellick and Balfron Tower, Calder will explore the ideas and ideals which shaped this movement in architecture. He will introduce an understanding of a Brutalist buidling’s materials, the techniques which went into making it, and the historical context of its creation. A talk which will transform an inarticulate and faintly threatening heap of concrete into an ingenious and elegant piece of artistic design.
